Name & Age: Lauren Stilwell, 29

Hometown: NE Portland

Current Neighborhood: Boise (Mississippi)

How do you pay the rent and what is your slash? I’m a marketing/PR chick at CMD Agency in the Pearl working alongside some of the most creative people in the city. My slash? Avid coffee drinker, runner, Blazer fan, restaurant-goer, TV junkie and general lover of Portland.

What do you create? Buzz for brands. Storytelling. Oh, and laughter on a fairly consistent basis.

How did you land in Portland? I’m a boomeranger. My roots are in Portland—I grew up in Northeast and attended University of Oregon. I then left and spent the last several years in beautiful San Francisco and have now returned. In my case, I left my heart right here.

What is the last book you read? Sadly, I haven’t had much time lately for new books. I think my last read was This is where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper (a pick from my former SF book club). It’s simultaneously funny and depressing. I read a gamut of news sites and blogs daily for work and leisure and I don’t get around to books as much as I’d like.

Name your favorite tattoo. I am a blank canvas and intend to stay that way. I may be the only chick in Portland without ink at this point.

What was the last thing you ate at a food cart? The Monte Cristo from the Big Egg. I live a stone’s throw from the Mississippi cart pod so I am spoiled.

Oregonian, Willamette Week, or Mercury? Oregonian for hard news but WW for lifestyle features and getting the dirt. Despite my profession relying heavily on blogs and social media, I still support and find value in traditional news.

What is your favorite bridge and why? From a utilitarian perspective, the Fremont. It’s the literal and figurative gateway between my work and play. I love the views of the city  the height provides. Aesthetically speaking, St. John’s. Of all the Portland bridges, it most closely resembles the Golden Gate design-wise, which is close to my heart. It’s worth noting that I totally dig the industrial feel of the Steel Bridge too – it never gets any love!

Stumptown Coffee or _________? Unequivocally Stumptown. I didn’t fully realize its greatness until I moved back here. I’m hooked now and have trouble drinking Starbucks or any type of chain coffee.

Coast or Mountains? Coast. I grew up escaping to Manzanita with my family on weekends, which back in the day was a relatively unknown little coastal gem. It’s still very quaint despite being tourist central. I’m a bonafide city girl, so for me, the mountains are nice to experience…from afar.

Only in Portland moment? Wow – there’s so many to count. Here’s one: my office has 10 different recycling bins in our kitchen – one for each type of material. It takes me 20 minutes to identify the correct receptacle and this decision-making process is agonizing. A Portlandia season 3 sketch, perhaps?

A favorite local business? Dig a Pony, a recently-opened bar in SE that is classically Portland. Great cocktails, floor to ceiling windows and amazing vibe. I also love Clyde Common/Ace Hotel and Spirit of ‘77. Those guys make magic.

Are you a car person or a bike person? Car person, although contemplating a bike purchase despite the fact that I will probably be a fair-weathered cyclist. Being bike-less and living on Mississippi, I feel like I’m the neighborhood pariah. I keep waiting to be chased down with fiery torches and pitchforks.

If you could change one thing about Portland, what would it be? The dating scene. Specifically, the singles’ scene. It’s a little too laid back and challenging to navigate at times. I can be somewhat of an old-fashioned girl, so it’s been an adjustment. I’m contemplating starting a blog to chronicle my experiences.

And finally, where can we find you on the web?
