How do you pay the rent and what is your slash? I’m the Marketing Director (officially  referred to as the “Marketing Maven”) at ADX, a new membership-based art and design facility. I basically run the bells and whistles on our promotional and social media strategies, and try to spread the word about our shared-workspace-and-resource concept. Besides that, I volunteer with Harpers Playground, a non-profit group raising funds to transform the playground at Arbor Lodge Park in N Portland to an accessible site where children and people of all mobilities can play. I spend my personal time coming up with wacky ideas, throwing events and social gatherings, and taking part in the Portland Metal Bowling League.

What do you create? I curate community, whether it be professionally at ADX, or within various social spheres. Creating wacky gatherings like Powerpoint nights, theme parties, and one-off events are my specialty.

How did you land in Portland? A scholarship led me to the University of Oregon for college, and once I finished in 2005, I just wasn’t ready to throw in the towel on my time in the Pacific Northwest. I moved here with my college roommate thinking I’d “try it out” for a year or two, and haven’t looked back!

What is the last book you read? Ignorance by Milan Kundera, and (don’t laugh) The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous, & Broke by Suze Orman…I’m getting married next year and want to make sure we both make smart financial decisions.

Name your favorite tattoo. I LOVE the variety of ink on my friends, and especially the large piece on my fiancé’s back. I, myself, don’t have any tattoos or piercings– a rarity in this town.

What was the last thing you ate at a food cart? I went old-school with a tasty Bambino Bowl from The Whole Bowl. That’s my go-to lunch when I’m feeling otherwise uninspired.

Oregonian, Willamette Week, or Mercury? I love the Mercury for all it savvy, irreverence, and humor. I’ve worked with similar publications in the past and love that you can just feel how much fun their staff has doing their jobs. Plus, my man is their freelance metal writer, so it’s always cool to read his work.

What is your favorite bridge and why? I get chills when I cross the St. John’s bridge just imagining the oil lamps, carriages, and spectres from the past. I can’t get enough of history, which is why I think Portland is a great match for my nerdiness.

Stumptown Coffee or _________? I’m actually not a coffee drinker! My favorite local beverage is, by far, Brew Dr. Kombucha.

Coast or Mountains? I love that we have both here, but I’m a coast girl at heart.

Only in Portland moment? Probably the enthusiasm for and participation level at my  annual pie fight. What started as a joke between me and a college friend is now approaching its sixth year, and with each year there are more and more people taking part. It’s ridiculous, right? To me, it’s the best day of the summer, and I think this sort of crazy event could really only fly and continue to grow here in Portland.

A favorite local business? Does the Trailblazer franchise count as a business? I love Icon Tattoo. And, well, ADX — not only do they support me, but they are bringing a whole new level of collaboration and accessibility to the local creative scene. The whole concept is so Portland.

Are you a car person or a bike person? If it were weather-appropriate, I’d roller skate everywhere. In the meantime, I love public transportation, and drive to work.

If you could change one thing about Portland, what would it be? There’s a real “fly by the seat of your pants” culture here. I’m all for being spontaneous and taking risks (and do so often!), but I think it’s nice to have things like an emergency savings account, professional goals, and future plans. That totally makes me sound like a square, but I think there isn’t too much “future planning” with the younger set in town. Maybe this terrible economy is mostly to blame.

And finally, where can we find you on the web?
