Name & Age: Sarah Lawrence 33
Hometown: Boise, Idaho
Current Neighborhood: Nob Hill
How do you pay the rent and what is your slash? Corporate slave/jack of all trades
What do you create? Delicious food! I spend hours obsessing over food blogs, cook books, specialty food shops and farmer’s markets. I love creating fun meals or snacks.
How did you land in Portland? I initially came out here for college and never wanted to leave! I spent a year overseas and another couple of years back in Idaho – yet the lure of Portland called me back. I love this city!
What is the last book you read? I read constantly. When I was six I told people my dream job would be a librarian. I also said I’d live in a house with my best friend, ride my bike to work (library) and take my cat with my in a basket. None of it came true. I digress. . . So, 6, that was about the time I developed the habit of taking books with me EVERYWHERE. I read under the covers, in the car, walking around the house, in the bathroom. That love has continued through my whole life. I read multiple books at once. I just finished Hunter S. Thompson’s Kingdom of Fear, George Orwell’s Ninteen Eighty-Four, Henning Mankell’s Faceless Killers, and am currently reading Tana French’s Faithful Place AND Gabrielle Hamilton’s Blood, Bones & Butter.
Name your favorite tattoo. The ones in my head! I have one on my back that I got in 2000. I’d love to dress it up and add a few more – a nod to my Idaho roots (think Blue Birds and Mock Orange flowers), something about cooking (maybe knife, spoon, fork combo thing). It’s still in development.
What was the last thing you ate at a food cart? Bulgolgi taco from Koi Fusion after a Timber’s Game.
What is your favorite bridge and why? I love them all for different reasons. Today, I feel partial to the Burnside Bridge because that Portland, Oregon sign (and its previous rendition) always remind me that I’m home.
Stumptown Coffee or _________? Any place that is open when I’m on my way to work or conveniently located at the end of a run.
Coast or Mountains? Is that our only option? What about wine country??
Only in Portland moment? Driving past Waterfront Park and seeing a group of 20 clowns doing aerobics. Or getting seriously creeped out by Extremo the Clown driving down the street in his scary van with the puppet mocking everyone from the window. Why are my moments revolving around clowns?!
A favorite local business? I’m a huge fan of all the farms in the area!
Are you a car person or a bike person? I have a dog, therefore I rely on my car so I can take him everywhere with me.
If you could change one thing about Portland, what would it be? I do love everything about this city, but there is one thing that I struggle with. Since I’m a runner, I’ve pounded out a lot of miles in town. I wish there were more water fountains, street lights and emergency call stations along all the Springwater Corridor and other running/biking paths in town. Safety first!
And finally, where can we find you on the web? You can’t!
