Name & Age: Stephen Aase, 26
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Current Neighborhood: Hollywood
How do you pay the rent and what is your slash? I am a Senior Designer with an emphasis on the interactive/digital side. My slash would go something like this: Web Designer/Print Designer/UI Designer/UX Designer/Creative Entrepreneur/Blazer Fan/Timbers Army Member
What do you create? I try and use my hands as much as possible, from creating new life in the garden to sketching design ideas, trying to spread those creative roots into everything I do is a must. The final product hopefully looks like a harvest of fresh veggies or a beautifully easy online experience.
How did you land in Portland? Landing implies coming from somewhere else. I am proud to report I was born and raised here in PDX! I went off to Corvallis for a couple years, but back I came, looking to give back to a community I fell in love with as a child.
What is the last book you read? The Fellowship: (not of the rings) The Untold Story of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Name your favorite tattoo. I don’t have one myself, but love anything in 8 bit and referencing a video game. Nothing like having MegaMan on your shoulder or a 1up mushroom on your chest.
What was the last thing you ate at a food cart? A Big. Ass. Sandwich. These are a treat and I can only do them every once and a while due to the gut bomb it creates. Other favorites are Potato Champion and the Crepe Cart on Hawthorne.
Oregonian, Willamette Week, or Mercury? More Oregonian than anything else. I am usually more an online reader of all sorts of news outlets.
What is your favorite bridge and why? I love the St. Johns for its good looks. I am most excited about the new walking/biking bridge that has yet to be built.
Stumptown Coffee or _________? Viso! I am not a huge coffee fan, but there is nothing like freaking out from the caffeine high of a Viso.
Coast or Mountains? Coast. I grew up going to Cannon Beach and Long Beach, WA. I love the roar of the ocean, kite festivals, and sandcastle competitions.
Only in Portland moment? For about a week there was a man parked in front of our house living out of a steel 4X8 camper he was pulling around on a makeshift bicycle. Included in his belongings was a full grown cat, kayak and another recumbent bicycle.
A favorite local business? I am going to go ahead and say ANY of the local breweries in town. These local beers are one of my favorite parts of Portland.
Are you a car person or a bike person? Bike. From commuting to work to participating in Sunday Parkways, this city is built better for the biker than the driver. I hope this never changes.
If you could change one thing about Portland, what would it be? If I could wave a wand and magically change one thing it would be to give a little help/support to the homeless population here in PDX. It is getting a little out of control.
And finally, where can we find you on the web? www.waterprooflab.com, www.twitter.com/waterproof, www.about.me/stephenaase, www.liquidagency.com.
