I Live Here: Lora Coburn

Name & Age: Lora Coburn, 32 years old

Hometown: Lebanon, OR

Current Neighborhood: John’s Landing

How do you pay the rent and what is your slash? CoCo Designs- Owner/Interior Designer/DoveLewis Ambassador Board Fundraising Chair/Urban Farmer.

What do you create? Fabulousness in the form of interior spaces!

How did you land in Portland? Growing up in the very small town of Lebanon, OR, aka The City That Friendliness Built, I high-tailed it out of there the first chance I got. Portland was the biggest city in Oregon. Done and done.

What is the last book you read? So many books, so little time. I am great at starting books, but not so great at actually finishing them. I am currently reading Made to Stick, Callings, The Power of Design and The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. I’m really looking forward to Urban Farm Store’s book coming out in March. With any luck, I’ll have these finished by 2015.

Name your favorite tattoo. I love tattoos. Anything with taste, comedy or meaning is awesome. It’s all about the individual. I likes me a tattooed man.

What was the last thing you ate at a food cart? That’s a toughy. I’ve been trying to eat as healthy as possible the last couple of months, and the food carts are too much of a temptation. I honestly can’t remember the last one I was at.

Oregonian, Willamette Week, or Mercury? Willamette Week

What is your favorite bridge and why? The St. Johns Bridge is pretty sweet. Even though I hold my breath the entire time I’m crossing. Small lanes!

Stumptown Coffee or _________? Stumptown, duh!

Coast or Mountains? Coast. I have a favorite little town that I’ve been going to with my family since I was 7. No, I will not tell you the name. I’d like to keep it my little secret as long as I can.

Only in Portland moment? I had a good friend tell me a story years ago about a woman in the crosswalk holding up traffic because she was walking a turtle on a leash. I died laughing at his animated story, but always wondered if it was 100% accurate. I mean, a turtle on a leash. How could that be real? Then, about 2 years later, I was running Race for the Cure and lo and behold… There was the woman I had heard about. Her turtle was on the leash and his shell was covered in pink ribbons to support the cause. Awesome!

A favorite local business? So many good ones to choose from… Urban Farm Store, House of Vintage, Salty Teacup, Anne Bocci Boutique and Gallery. I could go on forever.

Are you a car person or a bike person? I am a car person. As much as I appreciate the dedication of riding a bike, I have too much product in my hair for the rainy rides. No one wants to see me after a helmet and humidity, believe me.

If you could change one thing about Portland, what would it be? One thing… Easy. Socks with sandals would be outlawed. NEVER a good look, people!

And finally, where can we find you on the web?
