I Live Here: Andrea Flatley

Name & Age: Andrea Flatley 30-years-old (wow – weird seeing it written out)

Hometown: Fond du Lac, Wisconsin

Current Neighborhood: Northwest, Alphabet District, Nob Hill

How do you pay the rent and what is your slash? I produce the news – well right now a lifestyles show for Fox 12 Oregon and I dream of doing non-profit public relations.

What do you create? Each day I create an intricate rundown (of stories and details) that communicates to — anchors, editors, photographers, directors and everyone else involved – what I want to happen during a one hour live broadcast.  On a more random basis I create jars full of applesauce, Hustler kickball scoring opportunities, memorable Rose City moments for out of town friends, connections for Arizona State University Alumni living in Portland and “To Do Lists” of where I want to visit next.

How did you land in Portland? Via: Hawaii, Wisconsin, California, Arizona & Washington.. More simply — for a job.

What is the last book you read? I reread the entire Harry Potter series the week before the last movie came out.

Name your favorite tattoo. Needles Hurt.  Not a huge fan – am I allowed to say that in Portland?  If it’s small, well thought out, in a smart place and really has special meaning for a certain reason I think they’re okay.

What was the last thing you ate at a food cart? A Oregonian at PBJ’s but I think I might like their Hot Hood better.

Oregonian, Willamette Week, or Mercury? Oregonian for the news, WW to know what’s going on.

What is your favorite bridge and why? St. Johns, because it is beautiful from afar and just so powerful when you’re looking up at it from Cathedral Park.

Stumptown Coffee or _________? Clive Coffee – Met them at Indulge last year and they were nice and it was delicious so I thought I’d keep drinking it.

Coast or Mountains? The coast holds a special place in my heart from both long ago and as my current favorite romantic getaway.

Only in Portland moment? I was walking toward a grocery store can recycling station with my two or three minimal boxes full of bottles when a guy with two huge bags of cans slams his car in park, whips two huge bags of cans out of his trunk and speeds toward the machines to beat me there.  Of course the other one was broken and after less than five minutes he filled up the barrels and someone had to empty it.  I spent about 45 minutes there for less than $5.00.

A favorite local business? I love all the clothing shops along NW 23rd.  You can spend hours just window shopping.  3 Monkeys Inc., Ether, Duck Duck Goose, Lena Medoyeff Studio and Sloan Boutique are just a few of the places that always draw me in just with the window displays.

Are you a car person or a bike person? I’m a public transportation person — I love how easy it is to get around town on the MAX and Buses and being in NW I jump on the Streetcar nearly every day to get to the gym or happy hour downtown in the Pearl.

If you could change one thing about Portland, what would it be? Fewer people asking me for money or trying to get me to buy or sign up for something around every corner.

And finally, where can we find you on the web?
