Current Neighborhood: St. Johns
How do you pay the rent and what is your slash? I’m the best massage therapist in Portland who wears a bow tie and co-owner of Muscle & BonePDX. My slash is being a first-rate putzer. I love getting a good putz on and wander the interwebs, coffee shops, vintage boutiques or my living room.
What do you create? For my clients: a modern, safe and professional space to enjoy a great massage. For everyone else: feeling like the most important person in the room. I want to hear what you have to say and maybe learn a thing or two.
How did you land in Portland? I came up from California for a wedding and fell in love with her, she is a beautiful city — complex, eccentric and still sweet. Some days I like to take the city on a date and enjoy everything she has to offer all to myself.
What is the last book you read? Just Like That by Karin Kallmaker. It’s a lesbian Pride and Prejudice taking place modern day Napa Valley; moreover, it’s a cute, easy book I devoured in an afternoon. Who doesn’t love GLBT adapted literature?
Name your favorite tattoo. My fiancée, Katy, has a beautiful owl on her shoulder. When Katy and I first met and I asked who did her tattoo, she said, Tyler Adams, who, by chance, also did my western colt 45 tattoo. It was fate.
What was the last thing you ate at a food cart? Burgatroyd! On Mississippi. I always add an egg to my burger, it’s the perfect condiment.
Oregonian, Willamette Week, or Mercury? I’ll pick up the Mercury first, just to putz through, but if I’m in a reading mood, I’ll grab a Willyweek.
What is your favorite bridge and why? The St. Johns. It reminds of the Golden Gate bridge, my all time favorite bridge!
Stumptown Coffee or _________? Ristretto! I have some awesome friends who rock the espresso bar there.
Coast or Mountains? Coast. Magic always ensues.
Only in Portland moment? Anyone remember Booty night at Porkys? The night a corndog was used on stage in way it never should…
A favorite local business? The Man Shop in St. Johns. It feels like going back in time, they have layaway and will do alterations for free on anything you buy in the shop. If you have a dapper sense of fashion and want to support local, this shop has been around since the 50’s.
Are you a car person or a bike person? Alas, I am a car person. For a few years in my baby dyke days I was all about cycling, but now I’m for getting places on time and less sweaty.
If you could change one thing about Portland, what would it be? Is it me or does the city sometimes forget to take her meds? She’ll be all manic and sunshiney, singing along with the birds and then a week later there’s a snowstorm and the whole city shuts down.
And finally, where can we find you on the web?
