Name & Age: Anna Fickle 28
Hometown: Cave Junction, OR
Current Neighborhood: SE, Mill Park
How do you pay the rent and what is your slash? Owner of Branch and Birdie boutique/mother of two/jewelry maker/seamstress/occasional wardrobe designer at Two Penguins Productions….however if only I had a dollar for everyone who popped their head into my shop and said “PUT A BIRD ON IT!” THEN I’d be rich!
What do you create? Soft and eclectic beautiful spaces. I’m a lover of all things home decor related! I spend a lot of time sewing cushions and pillows.
How did you land in Portland? Swore I’d never end up back in OR, but after testing out NYC, LA, and sunny San Diego – a city with more affordable real estate, larger back yards, fewer retired right wing military and soy lattes on every corner sounded too good to be true! I met and married a Southern boy while living in NY so we still have reason to travel East quite often.
What is the last book you read? Chelsea Handler’s ‘Are you There Vodka?’, now reading ‘The Oregon Experiment’ by Keith Scribner.
Name your favorite tattoo. Hmmm, I’m in the works of designing tattoo number 9… so far I’d say my Jellyfish inspired by artist/biologist Ernst Haeckel…
What was the last thing you ate at a food cart? Fifty Licks Passionfruit Sorbet
Oregonian, Willamette Week, or Mercury? Oregonian when I’m feeling like a real grown up businesswoman, WW when I’m looking for the next cool/local thing, Mercury when I’m pretending to be 18 again and browsing for a hot concert to go to!
What is your favorite bridge and why? St Johns is by far my favorite design-wise but the Burnside Bridge tends to take me everywhere I need to go!
Stumptown Coffee or _________? Probably Intelligentsia, but I am spoiled by the soy lattes that my hubs religiously makes me each morning and evening (thanks Honey!!)
Only in Portland moment? We sell these adorable repurposed wool, locally made Owl Hats (Hoo Hats) in my shop – I put them in the kid’s section but have sold a huge amount to adults for themselves! Portlanders love wearing animals on their heads, saw a man with a Cow Face Hat on just this afternoon!
A favorite local business? Two Penguins Productions, my husband’s media production company. I may be biased but they produce some beautiful work! I also LOVE Por Que No – could happily eat there every single day!
Are you a car person or a bike person? You know you’re a PDXer when you feel guilty saying “CAR”, but I’m kinda scared to ride a bike in traffic…
If you could change one thing about Portland, what would it be? Aside from the weather, I’d love to see a little more current fashion happening…I know that goes against what many Portlander’s stand for, animal hats are great and all – but I do miss the NYC fashion quite often!
